We reply to everybody, including the people we cannot help. Most of the time the answer is that we already know somebody doing that work, or that we have nothing to introduce you to yet.
01What we look for
The standard,plainly.
It is narrow on purpose. We introduce a firm when we would put our own house, our own boat or our own purchase in its hands.
How we choose the people we introduceWork we can see
A job of comparable size that we can look at, or somebody whose judgement we trust who has looked at it. A firm that is excellent on an apartment is not automatically the firm for a lakeside restoration.
You answer in August
The month the lake is fullest and the hardest to get anything done in. An owner who is not always here needs written quotations, photographs when asked, and an honest answer when something has slipped.
A named person
Work on a protected house, an Italian conveyance and a winter haul-out all turn on the individual doing the job rather than the letterhead above them.
No arrangement between us
There is no referral fee in either direction and no shareholding. An introduction is our own view or it is worth nothing, and that cuts both ways: it cannot be bought.
