01Scope
What we publish
This site holds three kinds of page: reference pages about the villages and the lake itself, guides that answer one question in full, and a journal that records what we notice through the year. All of it is written by our own desks, and every substantial page says which desk wrote it.
We would rather cover a small area in detail than a wide one in summary. Some things are a matter of judgement: whether an address is worth the walk back up to it, what a village is like in February. Where that is so, we say so and give the reason. We are a new business and do not write as though we were an old one: no page claims a body of completed work behind it that does not exist.
02Verification
How a volatile value is checked
Prices, tax rates, journey times, ferry timings and opening hours all move. Rather than publish a plausible number and let it go quietly out of date, the content model holds each of them as a typed fact: a value, a status, the source it came from and the date somebody last checked it.
A fact carries one of three statuses. Verified means it has been checked against a named source. Editorial means it is stable geography or long-standing local knowledge: the shape of a shore rather than the price of it. Unverified means we do not yet know it well enough to state it, and a fact in that state is not published: the reader sees nothing rather than a guess, and it never reaches the structured data we hand to search engines.
Some tables here are shorter than they will be in a year. We would rather a page be visibly incomplete than quietly wrong.
03Limits
What we will not publish
We do not run restaurant round-ups. A list of ten places to eat in a village, written by somebody who has eaten in three of them, is the commonest form of writing about this lake and among the least useful.
We do not publish supplier directories either. The builders, notaries, surveyors and skippers we use are introduced privately, to a member, for a particular job, which is the only form in which a recommendation carries any weight. How that short list is put together is set out in how we choose the people we introduce.
Nor do we publish prices we cannot stand behind: a guide range for a village where we have not reviewed current comparables, or a figure so dependent on circumstances that one number would mislead more than it helps.
04Independence
Nobody pays to appear
There is no advertising on this site and no sponsored placement anywhere in it. No firm, agent, restaurant or owner has paid, or can pay, to be written about here or included in the network.
We take no commission when a member engages a firm we have introduced. The introduction is made because we think the firm is right for that job, not because the outcome pays us. Where we do act commercially it is on our own work, and the member knows it, because we are the ones doing it.
05Advice
Editorial is not professional advice
Pages covering tax, law, residency and ownership costs carry a notice saying so, and it is meant literally. Italian law changes, and how it applies turns on your nationality, your residence and the shape of your holding.
This material is written to make you a better-informed client of a lawyer, a notary or an accountant, not to stand in for one. Where a figure depends on your circumstances we say so and point you at somebody qualified; the guides are built that way throughout.
06Dates
How dates work, and what happens when we are wrong
Every substantial page carries a published date and, once it has been revised, an updated date. Both are visible to the reader rather than buried in the markup, so you can see how current a page is before relying on it.
If something here is wrong, we would rather hear it. Tell us and we will check it, change it and date the change; where the correction is material we say on the page that it has been made. The route is on the corrections page, and the desks responsible for this material are listed on about.
