How steep is Moltrasio, really?
Steep enough that the village is built in tiers and connected by stepped lanes, and that the walk back up from the water is the defining daily fact of living here.
This is the honest limitation of the place. Deliveries, furniture, building materials and elderly relatives all have to negotiate the same steps. A house that seems charming on an April viewing can become impractical if circumstances change, so it is worth deciding early whether you are buying above the road or below it, and whether you need a car at the door.
Can you moor a boat at Moltrasio?
There is a small harbour and a shoreline of private landing stages, but berths are scarce and rarely come to the open market.
The reliable route is a house that already has frontage and a structure on it. Riparian rights and existing jetties or boathouses attach to the property and are effectively impossible to create new, which is a large part of why waterfront houses on this shore trade so far above the village behind them.
Is there a railway station at Moltrasio?
No. The nearest stations are in Como, and the last part of the journey is by road or by water.
For arrivals from Milan the usual pattern is train to Como and a car from there. It is short, but on summer weekends the lakeside road north out of the city is slow, and a boat transfer is sometimes the quicker and always the more pleasant option.
